A group of Winnipeg students are taking their creative minds to L.A., where they will have the chance to take their animation work to new levels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On Thursday, students in the Sisler CREATE\u2019s post-high program went out to California for a chance to pitch their animation projects to Nickelodeon, one of the most well-known children\u2019s television channels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis is the craziest thing I have ever been a part of and maybe ever will,\u201d said Everett Dawson, one of the post-high students going to L.A.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI\u2019m so excited, I got no sleep. But again, I think it\u2019s going to be worth it for this trip.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dawson noted he\u2019s pitching a show idea a called \u2018Heave Ho Coco\u2019 about a coconut pirate who gets marooned on an island, and has to learn to make friends, play games and be on his own.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One of the other students, Angelica Velasco, said she\u2019s pitching a series called \u2018The Hero\u2019s Ernie,\u2019 which is a satirical comedy on the hero\u2019s journey, with a protagonist who has no interest in being a hero.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sisler High School\u2019s CREATE Program helps both high school and post-graduate students who are looking to pursue careers in new and digital media, including animation, game design, and film.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe\u2019re really connected with the industry. We\u2019re partners with Nickelodeon, people high up in Sony, Nelvana,\u201d Velasco said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt\u2019s not a regular class situation for us post high [students]. We have year-long projects that we go through the entire animation pipeline basically.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
