Manitoba\u2019s Sisler High School Launches Scholarship Program\u00a0with Vancouver Film School<\/h2>\n
New VFS-Sisler Pathway provides Winnipeg students with opportunity\u00a0to enter creative economy through funding and support from internationally renowned school.<\/h3>\n
Winnipeg, MB \u2013 Sisler High School launches an unprecedented partnership with Vancouver Film\u00a0School (VFS) that provides merit-based scholarships to their students for VFS\u2019 world-class one-year\u00a0intensive production programs. The VFS-Sisler Pathway will provide talented Winnipeg students the\u00a0opportunity to excel in the growing creative economy in Canada, responsible for more than 1.1\u00a0million jobs.
\nTwo of Sisler\u2019s top performing students, Daniel Cochon (18) and Moises Lucero (18), are the first\u00a0recipients of the scholarship, each receiving more than $5,000 in funding towards the Film\u00a0Production and Classical Animation programs. Every year, graduating Sisler students have the\u00a0opportunity to be awarded up to $4,000 dollars in Merit-Based Scholarships based on their academic\u00a0performance. In addition, two $3,000 Excellence in Media Scholarships will be offered to the two\u00a0top digital media students at Sisler, selected by the high school\u2019s staff.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe scholarship has given me the chance to chase after my dreams. I\u2019ve had a passion to become a\u00a0filmmaker since middle school, and now have a chance to fulfill these ambitions. I\u2019m delighted to be\u00a0developing my career as part of this new partnership,\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
explained Daniel Cochon.\u00a0The unique cross-institutional collaboration will also enhance learning at Sisler, with additional\u00a0access provided to VFS instructors, professionals and resources \u2013 further helping to develop the\u00a0innovative curriculum the school has established in Visual & Performing Arts and Interactive Digital\u00a0Media.
\nCanada\u2019s creative economy is estimated to contribute more than 1.1 million jobs to the Canadian\u00a0economy and is responsible for 7.4 percent of real GDP \u2013 more than the mining, forestry, fishery\u00a0sectors and Canadian Forces combined. In BC, digital and entertainment industries are worth $4\u00a0billion in annual GDP and supply more than 85,000 jobs, making it an exciting sector for young\u00a0creatives and entrepreneurs.<\/p>\n

\nThe joint announcement comes just months after the launch of the VFS-BCIT pathway\u2014a\u00a0remarkable partnership between VFS and the British Columbia Institute of Technology that enables\u00a0VFS graduates to fast-track into the BCIT School of Business and be eligible to obtain a Bachelor of\u00a0Business Administration (BBA) at BCIT. The VFS-Sisler Pathway program marks VFS\u2019s continued\u00a0commitment to institutional partnerships within Canada.<\/p>\n
