Registration has opened for Sisler High School’s IDM “Mani-Jam” (Manitoba Animation Jam Session)
March 6-7, 2017 with special guest: Disney animator Trent Correy
MAniJam (Manitoba Animation Jam Out Session) is a creative challenge brought to you by Sisler IDM & Trent Correy. Student film-makers, animators & artists will be challenged to create animations in just 3 hours (sort of! remember School does end at 3:30 pm). 3 hours to create an animation from start to finish does sound crazy, but that’s the whole fun of it. Every student’s animation must start and finish with the same Key-Frames. Students may animate using any of the following tools:
- pencils & paper,
- Adobe Photoshop,
- Adobe Flash/Animate,
- Adobe After Effects,
- Adobe Premiere
- Animation Desk
- etc

Day 1 Workshop Details & Breakdown:
9:00 – 10:15: Presentation: Trent’s Path to working at Disney/Portfolio
10:30 – 11:45: Animation Jam begins
11:45 – 12:45: Lunch
12:45 – 2:00: Animation Jam (continued) – Submit exported animations at 3:30. 2:10 – 3:10: Talk – How to get into the animation industry (Grade 11 Animation students will join )
Day 2 Workshop Details & Breakdown:
9:00 – 9:45: Talk – Pitching a story and how to start an animated short
10:00 – 10:20: Animation Jam Showcase of student work compiled as one short film
11:30-11:45: How to Draw Caricature Workshop & Good-Byes
11:45 – 12:45: Lunch (All students will be dismissed)
12:45 – 1:30: Presentation to Grade 11 Animation students (not part of Animation Jam)
1:40 – 2:30
2:30 Early dismissal from school because of department meetings. All students must make their way back to their home schools/home at this point.

Here’s a breakdown video for a few scenes from “Big Hero 6”. I had so much fun making the last video, and received such positive feedback that I decided to make another:) This was a very challenging sequence for me and a lot of fun at the same time. Each shot in the sequence had a different workflow (stepped, splined, straight ahead, heavily referenced) all depending on what the shot needed. I learnt so much from the Supervisors and the Directors on this sequence, I feel so humbled and privileged every time I present my shots for feedback. It’s such a positive atmosphere and everyone in the room is truly trying to make the shot the best it can be. From Story-boarding to Editorial everyone involved is improving the shot, I especially loved watching effects and lighting work their magic in the sequence!
