Dr. George Heshka was an educator for over 50 years including 40 years as the principal of Sisler High School, Manitoba’s largest school. His visionary leadership, work and commitment has greatly contributed to the pride and legacy of Sisler High School. He prided himself on the quality education students of Sisler received and his progressive ideas have transformed Sisler into an innovative institute with award-winning programs in academics, cybersecurity, robotics, visual and performing arts, and the CREATE program.
The Vincit Qui Se Vincit Scholarship will be awarded annually to the graduating Spartan(s) who are planning on continuing their education at any university, college, trade or vocational school and have best exemplified the true spirit of being a Sisler Spartan. The positive characteristics of a Spartan include: loyalty, bravery, and commitment to other Spartans and to the community at large. A Spartan will never retreat and will never surrender: whether this is in academics, athletics, the arts, trades, or when dealing with personal challenges. Spartans will work together for the greater good: revering all members of their community equally, building confidence in others while giving them a voice.
Dr. Heshka embraced and lived these positive characteristics of Spartans and spoke often of them. He believed strongly in the school motto: “Vincit Qui Se Vincit” (He conquers who conquers himself), and would often refer to it during his principal’s address at the yearly graduation commencement ceremonies.
