Alumni Spotlight: Meet Janelle King!

Janelle graduated from Sisler in 2016 having been the first student to receive the VFS/Sisler Horizon Scholarship! Janelle pursued her studies in Vancouver Film School’s 3D Animation and Visual Effects Program.

As a student, Janelle stood out for her hard work and determination during her project management classes, also known as Digital Voices. She worked as a digital background artist for the 2D animation project “Bound Odyssey”, hosted a workshop at the Canadian Museum for Human Rights, and was one of four Sisler IDM students to register their very own company, Digital Dropkick, which received $20,000 in funding! Janelle’s story, alongside Sisler alumni Kara Vallega, Kevin Solis, and Ritvick Mehra, was aired on Shaw TV, Shaw Direct and Shaw On-Demand in June of 2017 in a 20-minute documentary titled The Big Picture.

Janelle’s previous jobs include working as a 3D Animation teaching assistant at VFS’s 3D Animation program, and an Assistant Technical Artist at Electronic Arts (EA). Currently, she works as a Junior Rigger at Atomic Cartoons!

Janelle’s goal for the future is to keep working on even more shows and games in the industry.

“I always knew I wanted to do something with art. For me, walking into my first Create classes and seeing the creativity you can have in the digital industry; that was my first spark to the career I have now!”
