Ubisoft Entertainment, one of the world’s largest interactive entertainment publishers, is coming to Winnipeg.
If you’re not familiar with their work, they’re the production company behind such massively successful titles as Far Cry and Assassin’s Creed.
They announced their plans to invest $35 million in Winnipeg during a ceremony Friday morning.
But the company’s announcement isn’t just big for the city’s budding tech industry.
Ubisoft says they’re committed to hiring Manitobans to keep the jobs local, which could mean good things for students like aspiring game-designer Carlos Miguel Aquino.
Aquino was on site Friday and said he’d love to one day take Ubisoft up on their offer to hire young Winnipeggers.
“It’s great,” Aquino said. “Hearing that Ubisoft is opening up 100 jobs, that gives me an incentive to come back to Manitoba [after post-secondary schooling] and work here.”

“Honestly, [this makes me] want to go home now, turn on my computer, drink five cups of coffee and then code until the dawn breaks.”
As of now there are no plans for the location of new Winnipeg offices, but Ubisoft plans to be up and running with some new employees by the fall.
