Game and Film Jam Welcomes 150 Students

On January 30, 2025 the Winnipeg School Division’s CREATE Program at Sisler High School welcomed 150 students to Sisler for a day of learning, creativity and prizes!

CREATE’s Game Design and Film Jams invite junior high students from the Winnipeg School Division to learn the basics of game design and film creation. Under the mentorship of current CREATE students, participants design a simple game or create a short film during the course of a school day. Prizes are given to the best teams.

This year’s participants included select students from École Lansdowne School, Meadows West School, Andrew Mynarski V.C. School, Collège Churchill High School, École Stanley Knowles School, and École Stanley Knowles School.

This year’s keynote speakers included filmmaker Madison Thomas, actor and television writer Paul Rabliauskas (Acting Good), and game designer Brian Santos.

Sisler CREATE’s Game Design and Film Jams are supported by Warner Bros. Discovery, New Media Manitoba, and IATSE 856. Prizes were provided by Don’s Photo, IATSE 856, and CBC Manitoba.

The purpose of the Jams is to spread awareness about educational and career opportunities in the creative industries. CREATE will host a 2D Animation Jam in June.
