Students are receiving mentorship and masterclasses in 3D animation from one of the world’s premiere animation studios. REEL FX Animation, which has studios throughout North America, has assigned 3D CGI artists to work closely with CREATE students throughout the school year on modeling, compositing, and other components of the animation pipeline.
REEL FX Animation toured the CREATE program in 2021 and 2022 at Sisler High School where they met the educators and students. They also attended the CREATE showcase at the Winnipeg Art Gallery in the Spring of 2022.
“We are amazed at the quality of work coming out of this program and the dedication of the staff who are leading it,” said Donna Henry, Reel FX Animation President. “We are looking forward to working with these students as we help to build up 3D animation capacity in Winnipeg.”
REEL FX Animation has studios in Hollywood, Dallas and Montreal. They work with studios like Netflix, Warner Brothers, Fox, Sony, Paramount, Universal and Disney. REEL FX Animation boasts a roster of award-winning work, hundreds of employees, sister companies and an international presence.
“This partnership allows us to take a real deep dive into 3D animation,” said Bernard Alibudbud, who teaches Interactive Digital Media at Sisler High School. “This is a new level for us. It enhances what our program can offer and increases job opportunities for our students.”
CREATE’s partnership with REEL FX Animation kicked-off on October 19. The 9 person team working with REEL FX have named their cohort ‘REEL SPARKS’. Throughout the school year 3D CGI artists will deliver workshops and masterclasses while mentoring the students through the creation of a 3D animated short film. The film will be screened at CREATE’s annual showcase in the Spring of 2023.
