2026-27 Required Summer Assignment:

The following mandatory assignment will assist us in figuring out which mentorship group you will be placed in and will guarantee your position in the program. We will be thoroughly assessing each step/criteria. Failure to complete the summer assignment on-time will result in forfeiting one’s spot in the 2026-27 post-high program.

A Note Before You Begin

This assignment is designed to help us understand your current skills and how you approach the animation process. It is not about creating a perfect portfolio piece, and we encourage you not to overwork or overthink it. Please complete the assignment using the instructions provided and within the expected timeframe. We are much more interested in seeing your authentic work than something that has been polished for countless hours.

As we review your submission, we will be looking at several things:

• How well you follow instructions. Reading carefully and completing each requirement is an important part of working in animation.
• Your attention to detail. Small details matter throughout the production pipeline.
• Your current skill level. We want an honest snapshot of where you are today so we know how best to support your growth.
• Your ability to manage your time and meet deadlines. Completing work on schedule is a critical skill in both school and the animation industry.

Remember, this assignment is not about being the most advanced artist/animator. We are looking for students who are willing to learn, can follow direction, and are committed to growing throughout the year.

However, since we are assessing your aptitude and skill level, use of A.I. in the development of the art in this portfolio will be seen as academic dishonesty and result in a disqualification from the program.  

The same applies to any form of plagiarism (draw overs, tracing, submitting someone else’s work, etc).
